It happened sometime after my blog post about the wiki scoring system. I don't know how the idea came to me, but I started to think about the following. There are these less than fair rules of rewarding contributions. Let's see how far I can get with them. I'll try and do as many edits as I can, and see how far I can climb up on the leaderboard. That's how it turned into a kind of test, or even into a quest.
It was obvious, that the way I contributed that far will not give ample rewards, therefore I had to come up with some sort of "projects". This is how I made those animgifs that I added to various spell articles. I'm not saying that this is the best way to create them. It is only my way of doing it. Maybe someone gets inspiration from it and comes up with a better workflow.
I'm a Windows user. I have no idea what kind of tools are available for other operting system users, but probably there is a broad selection of utilities for Linux or MacOS X users, too.
My weapons of choice are Instagiffer, IrfanView and UnFREEz. And, of course, a media player, for which I picked VLC. I can imagine that there are other utilities that provide all the necessary features, but these are what I know.

Actually, this is not a complaint to anybody. It is not even based on hard researched facts. But I feel, that the scoring system is not really fair in its current form. Even if I talk against myself.
For example let's take a look at my case. At the time I'm writing this blog post, I'm ranked twelfth with over 600 points.
But if we take a closer look, we find that the majority of these points are coming from continuous presence. 460 points just for being here, and if you browse through my contributions, it is easy to see that most of my time was spent in the forum.
