The surname Diaz is common in spanish speaking countries but not at all in portuguese speaking countries like Brazil from where he is supposed to be from. There is the 'Dias" surname that is fairly common though that has the exact same meaning and very similar pronounciation, but different origins.
Is his surname 'Diaz' a transliteration mistake from japanese alphabet to latin alphabet or the author really wrote it as it is?
