Memory of the Dead (死者の記憶 - Shisha no Kioku) is a Forbidden Perception Type Magic that reads the residual thoughts, or more specifically the Psion Information Bodies left in the corpse.
Background[]
While the Yotsuba Clan are known for their Mental Interference Magic, among the rare abilities that they have is Memory of the Dead that even Tatsuya does not know about and is also the one of the trump card of the Kuroba family in Intelligence gathering.[1]
Secrecy[]
The existence Memory of the Dead is known only by Yotsuba Clan who are shrouded in mystery to the public in the aftermath of the Nightmare of 2062. For the case of Shinonome Yoshimi, she is trained to leave as little presence as possible and even in her manner of speaking but even Yoshimi herself does not know if this is because of Memory of the Dead or otherwise and even the gloves she uses are disposed of immediately after her missions.[1]

Memory of the Dead in action
Memory of the Dead produces a pale Psion light from the hand of the user which touches the corpse's forehead. A distortion-less homogenous Psion wave without intention was injected, then the rebound of the Psion was read which treats the corpse like a CAD that process the Psion information body that the corpse stored and it gives the user visions of images from the corpse's memory, hence the name.
For this magic, there is no need for a fully undamaged corpse, a freshly severed head would work, but so would something as extreme as a brain that had been blown to pieces. As long as there was something of the head area present that was more or less intact, it would cause no problems and could be used as a clue. Since the dead cannot feel anything nor think of anything, the Psion information body left and the Magic Sequence stored in a corpse lasts much longer. While the Psion information body in a living body changes according to intention and thoughts.
If the user goes too "deep in" with this magic, they might not "return" to the world of the living.[1]

Due to the requirement of Memory of the Dead, destructive magic that leaves no corpses behind but because of the well kept secret of this magic that is maintained by the Yotsuba, no enemy is able to exploit this.
