Kuroba Mitsugu (黒羽 貢) is the Head of the Kuroba Family, a Branch Family of the Yotsuba and is Shiba Miya's and Yotsuba Maya's cousin. He has two children, Kuroba Fumiya and Kuroba Ayako.
Appearance and Personality[]
He and his children tend to be overly formal and dress accordingly. At work he wears a formal hat that is mentioned to look like he has read one too many novels, so he has a penchant for drama.
He is described by Miyuki as someone who cares about outward appearance and is a “Yotsuba” to the marrow of his bones in the fact he feels that having his own children showing empathy to a Guardian like Tatsuya is improper as he views him as tool to use and throw away as needed. [2]
Background[]
When Shiba Miya was pregnant with Tatsuya, Mitsugu and the Yotsuba Family wished for a power to protect them from an unreasonable fate because of what happened Yotsuba Maya even if their opponent will be a nation or even the world, a power that would protect their children from tragedy, an absolute guardian. Yotsuba Eisaku reveals that the newborn Tatsuya's power could destroy the world which was initially rejoiced by the clan but Mitsugu later realizes that Miya's actual wish was revenge against the world that hurt her and her sister.
As the next head of the Kuroba Family, Mitsugu joins the meetings with the rest of Yotsuba clan on how to deal with Tatsuya and his power which lasted several days and nights. It was Mitsugu's father, Kuroba Juuzou who submitted the idea of killing Tatsuya on behalf of the branch families but Eisaku rejected the plan and intends to raise Tatsuya to be a combat magician. [1]
Mitsugu would eventually succeed Juuzou as Head of the Kuroba Branch Family who are in charge of gathering intelligence for the Yotsuba. A few years later, he lost his wife before the Shiba siblings entered middle school. [1]
Although the Yotsuba do not have any semblance of a direct lineage, Mitsugu is as close to a direct lineage as one can get in the Yotsuba clan. He is a Magician who manifested the Mental Interference aspect of the Yotsuba heritage.
When Tatsuya and Miyuki was invited by Maya to attend the Yotsuba's New Year family gathering, he indirectly participated in the Yotsuba branch families' attempt to stop them. But because he does not want to make Ayako and Fumiya sad, Mitsugu supports the branch families spiritually by visiting Tatsuya in his Four Leaves Technology office and tells him to not to attend the gathering. Tatsuya refuses and questions why they want to separate Miyuki and him to which Mitsugu replies he will tell him if he will asnwer if he arrives at the main house on time. [3]
After Tatsuya arrives at the Yotsuba Main House, he visits Mitsugu to answer his questions earlier where he tells him about his birth and believes Tatsuya should not be at the center of the Yotsuba so their sins won't be repeated anymore. Tatsuya responds that he understands his position but refuses to stop being Miyuki's guardian which angers Mitsugu to a confrontation between the two. Before they could come to blows, Mitsugu realizes there wasn't a single opening left for him to kill Tatsuya so he allows him to leave. [1]

| After Tatsuya defeats Fujibayashi Nagamasa, Mitsugu confronts Tatsuya and questions him why he is zealously pursuing Kudou Minoru to bring back Sakurai Minami. Tatsuya responds that even he still can't understand why, to which Mitsugu admits that he is wrong about Tatsuya not having a heart. After further venting out his dislike of Tatsuya, Mitsugu signals his people to put Nagamasa in custody then passes the message from Ayako and Fumiya that Minoru is heading for Odawara to which Tatsuya bows to Mitsugu as he leaves.[4] |

Poisoned Bees[]
Poisoned Bees in the Manga
Poisoned Bees is a sensory interference spell that increased the target’s pain perception infinitely to the point of death, though the spell can be blocked by someone who can cut off their pain receptors. The greatest advantage to “Poisoned Bees” is its ability to finish an opponent with the tiny prick of a pin leaving behind a nondescript wound that would be hard to link as the cause of death. When faced with a victim of “Poisoned Bees”, the initial assumption would be poison, then maybe death by suffocation, but the corpse would leave behind no evidence to support either hypothesis. For assassination purposes, “Poisoned Bees” is an ideal magic.
Unlike most sensory interference magic, Poisoned Bees has an Activation Sequence that wasn't caster specific, and with a well streamlined process. In short, even Magicians other than Mitsugu were capable of using this magic making it the trump card of the Kuroba family's agents.[5]
Barrier Workaround Method[]
Mitsugu posses a unique magic that allows him to overcome barriers and knows a technique of approaching a short distance so that an enemy doesn't catch the signs of magic while doing so. [4]
Relationships[]
Kuroba Ayako and Kuroba Fumiya[]
Mitsugu enjoys bragging about his children and is close to them but is also annoyed of his children's closeness to Tatsuya. [2] Although Mitsugu apreciates Ayako and Fumiya's magic and capability on assisting Tatsuya who is battling Yakumo, Mitsugu stops them anyway telling them that it was Maya's order to forbid them from assisting. [6]
Shiba Tatsuya[]
Like the rest of his generation, Mitsugu utterly despises Tatsuya due to his irrational fear of Tatsuya's power which he sees as the sin of the Yotsuba. His hate is to the point that Mitsugu actively tries to sabotage Tatsuya's position within the Yotsuba to the point his feelings can interfere with his duty to the family head through passive sabotage.[7]

Yotsuba Maya[]
Mitsugu is overly formal with his cousin Yotsuba Maya (and scared of her). He is very good at acting and hiding his true feelings behind a smiling mask, making him difficult to read. [5]
